Tokyo, Japan, June 23, 2005 — ACCESS Co., Ltd. (TSE: 4813) and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced that the two companies have collaborated to develop a joint mobile IP telephony solution. ACCESS and Oki Electric are the first in the industry to succeed in developing a mobile IP telephony environment that integrates Internet browsing with VoIP (Voice over IP). The two companies plan to commercialize the solution.
The “VoIP Integrated Client Environment” is the mobile IP telephony environment that links ACCESS’ NetFront™ Mobile Client Suite, a software suite for mobile devices, with Oki’s high sound quality VoIP technology. The NetFront Mobile Client Suite integrates major software components including a browser, a messaging client, and Java™, that significantly reduce development time and cost for next generation information equipment. By creating solutions with the VoIP Integrated Client Environment and Oki’s IP telephony server, IP CONVERGENCE® Server SS9100, or the SIP compliant J2EE application server “SipAs™ on WebLogic,” the two companies can now provide a mobile business environment.
“Oki is pleased to work together with ACCESS, which is known for their success in embedding high performance functions into terminals, including browser functions. By combining ACCESS’ technologies with our know-how to establish large-scale IP telephony equipment and our excellent sound quality, known as e-sound technology that we have refined over the past ten years, together we can provide an attractive mobile business environment to our customers,” said Masayoshi Matsushita, Senior Operating Officer of Systems Network Business Group at Oki Electric. “Working with ACCESS, we aim to expand the new information and telecom converged market by providing advanced mobile solutions.”
“With the Oki and ACCESS collaboration, we can provide information equipment with high voice quality for telecom carriers and information equipment manufacturers. This enables both companies to provide a new mobile solution that integrates mobile an application environment and a real-time communication environment,” said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO of ACCESS. “As this system is designed to work in various environments, it can be used in overseas IP telephony markets as well. Going forward ACCESS will work toward realizing a ubiquitous mobile society by integrating its mobile terminal software technologies and Oki’s VoIP systems.”
This solution will be exhibited in the ACCESS booth at the 8th Embedded Systems Expo & Conference (ESEC) in Tokyo Big Sight from June 29th to July 1. From July 13th to 15th, a demonstration will be held at Oki’s booth at the Wireless Japan 2005 exhibition at Tokyo Big Sight.
